Wisdom Teeth [Nov. 21st, 2009|08:39 pm]
[mood | touched]

So... I got my wisdom teeth pulled on Wednesday. All four of them.

Moderately interesting details )

The best story is as follows.

The same evening I had them out, I had a class at 7pm. I realized the teacher was going to be taking attendance that day, whereas most days she had not (and I'd had a perfect attendance up until then). Not wanting this mark on my record, I made my way down there, with the help of my friend Mowse (I couldn't walk there in my state so he gave me door to door driving service :D ).

I got there, ice packs strapped to my face within socks and needing to lean on the walls in order to stay upright. It was a somewhat large class, auditorium-style with around 200 seats. I stood in the back and listened to the teacher's pre-class info. When she was done, she asked if anyone had any more questions.

I went down to the front of the class, using the side wall to lean on. I raised my hand and she called on me. I choked out through a pained smile, "I just got my wisdom teeth out this morning and I really shouldn't be here, but I knew you would be taking attendance."

She looked at me kinda dumbfounded and started asking me if I had documentation - but quickly stopped herself and said "Well, I guess it's obvious."

She looked out to the class and asked, "How many of you think she really just had her wisdom teeth taken out?" The whole class started raising their hands. She looked back at me and told me I was excused.

As I turned and started walking back out to the door, the whole class - keep in mind around 200 seats - started clapping for me. They applauded the whole time as I made my way to the back of the class and out the door. I heard random shouts like "Get some sleep!"

I smiled. Sometimes the world can be kind after all.

Alex showed me this a while ago, and I was just thinking about it again after passing one and decided to blow all your minds.

[mood | thankful]

Not much on my mind to say right now, but this meme has been going around, and while I think it goes without saying - I think it's worth a post anyway.

If there is one person or more on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

Thanks a lot, everyone. =)

Artses [Jun. 16th, 2009|05:59 pm]

I worked on something last night and today after seeing K's entry requesting art challenges to help herself improve :D and when I was thinking up all the neat things she could try to accomplish, I ended up wanting to do some stuff myself, so I made this.

This is Argos, Odysseus's dog who waited 20 years for him to return while everyone else assumed he was dead. When Argos finally saw his master again, he mustered up a weak wag of the tail and died in peace.

Also, I was going through my basement and found this from when I was like, 13. XD

For the Girls [May. 25th, 2009|09:53 pm]
HAIR!

Help? ;-;

I know this might seem kind of odd coming from me, but I've been taking a lot of interest in like.. hair care lately. I've always been the sort of "bare minimum" routine nerd who never wanted to spend much time on taking care of myself, but I've been trying to change that. Not become fake, but just.. nice, you know?

I've always wanted that extremely soft, silky smooth hair that feels so soft and flutters smoothly in the wind. For a long time I kinda wrote it off, assuming anyone who has hair like that spends a lot of time and money getting it that way.. but in college I've seen a lot of girls who look so casual like they barely rolled out of bed and threw their hair up in a ponytail, and it still just looks so soft and nice. So it renewed my faith.

Being the nerd that I am, I missed out on all those teen years of playing with hair and makeup and whatever else with other girls at sleepovers (we always played video games instead... not that I'm complaining about that XD ). So I never learned how!

I've read tons of things online, and tried lots of random products and stuff, and it's just such a big world of crap that I'm having a hard time figuring out what works for me. I don't even know for sure how to tell what "type" my hair is @_@;

Sooo.. even though I'm sure most of you girls on my list are more like me and prioritized other interests over beauty routines, you might have some tips or things that would help me =) and if you guy peoples out there know anything, from sisters or yourselves or however else you might know, XD I'd like to hear!!

My hair is brown (hairdressers have told me I have "natural highlights" and tell me to never cover it up with dye - I'm not exactly sure what it really means, though.. it still pretty much just looks brown to me...). It's generally straightish but a lot of the hairs are "kinky" and waved, even though most are straight. So those tend to "grab" the other hairs into a sorta tangle-web, even when it's brushed smooth, it just isn't "flowy" because the hair sticks to itself. I have no idea if there is a term for this, but I want to find a way to smooth it out. =( I also get some frizz, I guess that's what all that basically is, but within the hair and not just floaties on top.

I've tried using a hair straightener, blowdryer, etc., but I know they are really bad for your hair, and I haven't seen very good results with them anyway (though it might just be because I'm a noob at using them).

Mostly, I just really, really want it to be extremely soft and smooth to the touch, and move freely in the air. ;_;

Thank you for any help. ;_;

True Story (I think I'm going to try doodling events from my life more often.) [May. 20th, 2008|12:07 am]

[mood | intrigued]

The other day in the bank I saw a little girl sitting in a chair with a papillon dog. I smiled at her, and she smiled back, not making a sound. I think she wore rain boots, even though it wasn't raining.

I could see no adults associated with her, no one paying her any mind, and the bank was quiet. I tried not to stare but I couldn't help looking over and smiling at this cute sight. I went to the desk to deposit my checks, which didn't take long at all.

When I turned around to leave, she was gone.

[mood | enthralled]

Sweet baby Jesus, SAI is an amazing drawing software. I just started playing with it and I'm already in love. It takes all the parts of photoshop that you would care about while drawing and re-organizes them to be easy to use and efficient. It's like the ease of oekaki layout, but with more tools and higher quality. It's also a heck of a lot smaller and lighter than Photoshop (it's only like 2mb).

The watercolor blending is beautiful, and you can rotate the canvas easily while drawing!!! Just like you can with paper! I kept reaching that point I have gotten used to in CGing, where I'm like "well, time to redraw the same line over and over until I get it right" and then I'm like "OH SHI-- I CAN ROTATE THE CANVAS!" and do so, and then I draw so much smoother.

Here's the first coloring I did to test it out.

Oops, I kinda made her look like Kagami. >_> Not intentional.

Anyway, I've been pretty stressed out but I'm completely enthralled with this. *_*

Did this in pchat last night. I'm trying to practice colors and backgrounds now. =)

This is pretty much how I've been feeling, too. I just want to fly up up and away from all this, and see the world from a new perspective.

Would anyone object if I posted doodles and stuff here more often even though this isn't an art blog? >.> I never seem to want to talk about life here anymore, and I don't want to upload most of my stuff to dA since most of it is unpolished (ignore this one, I actually did put this on dA XD ).

A better pic [Mar. 20th, 2008|05:43 am]

This is FL-chan, moe personification of FruityLoops software XD

For my new friend Alex/[info]djcomet, for without him I wouldn't know about FL-chan's existence. :3

I like this pic a lot better than that St. Pat's one... probably will stick this one on dA if I can figure out a bg to slap on it.

I have a test in a few hours, but I spent the night coloring FL-chan instead of studying.... ._.

Must get better and faster at drawing and coloring.. but... must do well in school... ffghjagfkas

Memories [Feb. 11th, 2008|09:02 am]
I like to keep things around that have different fragments of memory attached to them.

Every item you own has a story. Well... not every one of them is going to have something memorable as its story, but I like to keep things near me that remind me of old friends.

If you look at my wall, you'll see a bunch of posters, mostly anime. Nothing remarkable to anyone from the outside; probably just looks like standard anime nerd decor.

But to me, I look and find happiness. I look above my computer, and I am reminded of my friends. A print from Feria, a print from Sylph. Repeat that next to my bed. A pastel drawing from Pompi for my birthday. A chibi commission Sarah got of us in cosplay. A printed picture of puppies in a barrel that I posted on my dorm door freshman year. A poster from my high school Spanish room that was the source of many inside jokes. Half of a watercolor sunset one of my freshman year roommates painted. As far as I know, she still has the other half.

That puppy stuffed animal is from Mike the day before I left for college. In the tag it says, "Don't forget about Nin!"

The Chococat stickers on my phone have long been faded, so I put new stickers on. I left the faded stickers because they remind me of Danny. Similarly, on that phone are two keychains from Chrissy. The charms have broken off of both of them, but I keep the strings still attached.

It's the little things. =)

My contribution to the world [Aug. 16th, 2007|03:48 am]
Somewhere, floating around in some safes, are some $50 and $100 bills with various doodles on them in counterfeit pen. And somewhere, sometime, some people will receive $50 bills featuring Ulysses S. Grant with a scar and eye patch, and it will be my fault.

Goodbye, McDonald's. Times were good, sort of.
